QUT M Block – Central Analytical Research Facility

PODCON was awarded the one of a kind project to undertake the new construction of a laboratory for 2 specialist microscopes and associated laboratory facilities. Understanding key campus restrictions and operations were key to providing a catered delivery model fit for such a marquee project.

As the space caters to specially commissioned electron microscopes extensive works were undertaken to ensure the laboratory complied with the stringent climate, vibration and electromagnetic interference tolerances. Isolated inertia slabs and fully welded aluminium shielding required a level of construction detail rarely seen on projects and made all the more critical when undertaking in an operational live university building.

International sourcing of materials & equipment required continued close management through the supply chain provided challenges to the project however the final delivery is proof of an exceptional quality outcome providing a highly specialised facility for the QUT Institute of Future Environments.
